CONVERGENT also pioneered colloidal nano-silica based finishing and curing aid technologies designed to improve concrete surface quality during the placement and curing processes. These colloidal systems help retain moisture, improving hydration in the slab surface, extend working time, reduce shrinkage and micro-cracking, and also help promote a denser, more uniform finish. SlabArmor™ Starter is the original colloidal silica curing/finishing aid for concrete developed in 2009, whose popularity has skyrocketed more recently with the growing use of “thirsty” low-carbon concrete using Type- 1L cement. In addition to being an excellent densifier, its hydrophilic properties hold bleed water in the capillaries of the concrete slab during the curing process, reducing shrinkage and micro-cracks in adverse weather conditions, while extending concrete working time, creating a more workable and a dense surface.
